Self Evaluation
Overall I am very happy with the final art piece I have created for my FMP art assignment. Throughout my process of creating my final piece, in all my pre production I have learnt how to manipulate different types of media such as water paint, acrylic paint and oil pastels and finally deciding on a proffered method to create my final piece. I am happy with the outcome of my final piece with my chosen media, though I do think the easiest media to manipulate was water colour paints, they are easy to paint with and are not too harsh. though I am happy with my final art piece, it is quite harsh and it was quite hard to define detail in certain areas of certain assets. Though all of this said, I am happy with my piece and in this process I have learnt different methods of painting and creating artwork that I can use again in the future.

Below is my final piece for my art FMP.
Feedback
Throughout the process of this assignment, I received feedback from my tutors informing me on the quality of my work and the different media's I should experiment with. I received constant positive feedback that helped me sculpt my final product. The overall feedback I received for my final product was that I have created a good standard of a final outcome and I have demonstrated my ability to manipulate different types of media to create various different art pieces that are too, of a good standard.
I have been given some criticism on my process and final piece, obviously my work is not of the greatest of standards, or highest of qualities, but with my limited art knowledge and familiarity, I have been able to create a good final piece and good pieces throughout my pre production and production stages and with practice I can create even better work in the future.

Planning
Planning
Below is a production schedule that I will fill in as I progress through my FMP to keep track of my progress and what stage I am at in the process. There are 13 weeks in total for this assignment, starting on the 23rd of February and finishing on the 22nd of May, when I will have completed all of my work.
Below is how I hope my schedule will look once I have completed this assignment. At the end of this assignment I will place an up to date completed schedule in the production section of this blog, below my production log.
Below is my initial sketch for my layout plan of how my final product will look along with my digital layout plan which I created in Paint. - These plans will be used to help me design my first draft of my FMP and my final product. Also below is a rough painting of my final layout of my final piece and a plan created by scanning individual assets before compiling them into one layered image in Photoshop.

Next I created a rough collage with the separate painted assets as you can see below. I scanned them so they can be edited in the appropriate software and placed together into a large collage image layout as you can see below.
Now that I have completed my planning, I know exactly how my final piece should look, so I am ready to create the individual assets, before compiling them together into my final piece, which will be painted.
Pitch
Pitch for volcanic environment
Below is the presentation I used for my pitch for my FMP.
Below is the presentation I used for my pitch for my FMP.
Ideas Generation
Frozen Planet Environment ideas
General idea
The idea is for a vast landscape predominately filled with frozen structures and vast frozen planes. Within the environment will be huge frozen structures that appear to be a habitat for unknown inhabitants.

Volcanic planet ideas
General idea
The idea is for a vast landscape predominately filled with volcanic structures and vast fiery, volcanic planes. Within the environment will be huge volcanic structures that appear to be a habitat for unknown inhabitants as well as huge volcanoes and mountainous structures surrounding the environment, this is the environment I will most likely base the rest of my FMP on.

Inspirational images
Rough concept drawings (interpretations of inspirational images)
Below are concept drawings roughly based on my artists research and images gathered from the internet. None of these concept drawings are identical to their inspiration as I was experimenting with creativity and different drawings methods.
Inspired concept drawings based on library research and images from the internet:

I am quite happy with my current progress at this point, and I am happy with the standard of my above inspired concept drawings, they are fairly good in my eyes, considering my level of drawing experience and ability.
Photographs
Below are photographs of mountainous areas in my old home town of Llandudno, the majority of these photographs were taken by me, though a couple are from other sources. I will use these photographs as inspiration for the structure of m environment concept art.
Developed drawings based on photographs
Below are drawings I created using the above photographs for inspiration but altering them to appear more like volcanic environments.
To the left is an inspired drawing based on one of the above photographs I personally have taken. Specifically this drawing is based on the photograph with the sand in the foreground and the mountainous landscape in he far distance. As you can see I have altered certain aspects of this photograph in my drawing, as instead of sand, there is volcanic lava with craters floating among it and a mountainous landscape in the distance harboring volcanoes and volcanic rock.
I think his is quite an effective drawing and the use of dark shades of black and grey help to determine areas of light as well as emphasizing the orange pattern I used to depict the placement of lava.
I am very happy with this interpretive drawing and it will inspire me in the creation of my final product.
To the right is a drawing I created based on the photograph of the ski slop environment that I personally taken. I have altered certain aspects o this drawing when replicating other certain assets into my drawing. I have used the general outline of where he slope is locate in he photograph, though replaced it with lava and I have altered the surrounding area to replicate a volcanic setting with one large volcano to the left of the picture and mountainous structures surrounding the rest of the drawing.
As with the above drawing I used dark shades of black and grey to highlight areas greater effected by light and to emphasize the color of the lava.
I am very happy with this drawing and it will certainly inspire my final outcome.
As I have done a lot of pencil based drawings, I have now decided to create some with various other media types such as paint and oil pastels as you can see below to inspire me in my final piece.
Oil pastel art work - I created these oil pastel pieces of artwork to inspire me in my final creation and to experiment with different forms of media, I particularly like this form of media, though I have yet to experiment with paint, which is usually my preferred from of media.
The artwork below was created by me with paint, specifically water colour paints. I really like this form of media, it is very easy to manipulate and create what you desire with this form of media and I have decided after experimenting with different types of media, my final piece will be created with paint and unedited by any software, as this is the most desirable method for me to use in the creation of my final product.

Research
Environment Artists & Art
There are many environment artists in the world, all with vastly varied skills and abilities who use what they have learned to develop environmental art for computer games and films, these specific types of environment artists intrigue me in particular and there work is similar to the standard that I would one day like to produce. Personally I want to go on to model 3D environments and concept art greatly helps in the production of 3 environments, it works like a set of instructions, detailing what exactly needs to be created.
Game Artists
Below are some game artists that particularly intrigue my interest.
Scott Homer
http://www.scotthomer.co.uk/
Scott Homer is and established 3D artist who has created many 3D environment for games, which are very appealing to me and will influence my FMP.
Below is some of Scott Homer's environment artwork for the game Crisis 3, an extremely successful game playable across most platforms.

Scotty Brown lead environment artist Bioware
http://cgcookie.com/blender/2013/11/06/interview-scotty-brown-lead-environment-artist-bioware/
Scotty Brown is another even more so established artist who creates 3D environments for games with great skill, a 3D environment artist usually works with a concept artist in order to get ideas fro what to model and where to lay things out within the environment. His particular type of art is different to what I hope to end up with when I finalize my FMP.
Below is some of Scotty Browns work for the game Army of Two, whci was very successful and playable on multiple platforms such as Xbox 360.

Wiktor Öhman

Wiktor Öhman is another successful 3D environment artist, he creates very appealing 3D environments as you can see below, some I would use for inspiration in finalising my final product.

Library Research
Photographers
Frans Lanteng, Ansel Adams and Yann Arthus Bertrand
Three successful photographers of environments such as volcanic environments are Frans Lanteng, Ansel Adams and Yann Arthus Bertrand who I recently discovered in a visit to the college library. They use methods of photography to capture significant images from all around the world which will inspire me greatly in my FMP.
Below is some of their work and a list of the books they are from.
"Life through time"
By Frans Lanteng
"400 Photographs"
By Ansel Adams
"The Earth From The Air"
By Yann Arthus Bertrand
All of their artwork below I will use as an influence from my FMP as they
are all photographs with a very similar theme to what I would like to have
at the end of my project.
